The C&G NVQ Level 6 is on a par with the NEBOSH Diploma Level 6 and University Degree courses. IOSH holds both qualifications at an entrance level for CertIOSH (formally known as Grad.IOSH) membership and in holding this safety qualification you will be able to enrol on IOSH’s Initial Professional Development (IPD) program. Once your cycle of IPD has been undertaken, you will be able to commence your application for Chartered Membership status (CMIOSH). NVQs have changed over the years and the level 6 requires you to undertake some theory questions and reflection on your work practices in order to fulfil the IOSH membership application process, your work on this will contribute to your demonstration of knowledge during the IOSH membership application and interview process.
This C&G Level 6 is designed for those who are undertaking a substantial H&S role within their organisation, holding decision-making responsibilities, directly reporting to, or as part of, the senior management team. This qualification requires candidates to be aware of cost implications and budgetary control in H&S.
If you hold an H&S level 3 or 5 Certificate you can use it as a stepping stone to work on this Level 6 at a reduced price and SHE Knows will not require you to duplicate work, so reducing the amount of evidence you need to submit in your Level 6. We call this using RPL. Please do ask about using RPL from a NEBOSH Certificate or an NVQ level 3 or 5.
This qualification is made up of 7 mandatory units.

SHE Knows delivery methods for this qualification – we are different, not just your average training provider.
At SHE Knows we aim to concentrate on assessing work-based evidence and not giving out assignments or written Q&A; however, City & Guilds requires some reporting to management in a written format – after an accident or non-compliance, in order to produce “well rounded” safety practitioners.
Our cost for the C&G Level 6 covers all your assessment, registration and certification costs so that you concentrate on providing work-based evidence; this means there is no hidden cost to you or your employer. No time spent visiting the assessor in his office or mileage payments etc. For best practice we will visit you at your workplace to undertake your induction and a workplace observation supported by a professional discussion tailored to the NVQ knowledge requirements. Your Assessors will continue to support you from our office, with you submitting your work electronically; this can be via email, Googledrive, WeTransfer or Dropbox – we have even assess evidence submitted via WhatsApp.
If you do want to be supported with 2 additional visits, then an assessor will visit you at work (we’ll plan the sites and times with you) and they can then observe you and assist with portfolio building as you require.
Time scales for completion – this does vary. Some practitioners with several years of experience in H&S, who have a wealth of documentation to draw on, have completed the NVQ in 4 to 6 months. Others, newer to the field, have to take to time develop certain systems or job roles, so then this could take up to 2 years to compete the qualification – if this is you, you may want to consider the ProQual Level 6. We have to ensure that you are not submitting out of date evidence due to any changes in legislation, best practice or old documents that have since been reviewed, this is why we mention the 2 years goalpost.
You can start at any time; once registration has been completed a work pack will be issued. On your initial contact/induction with your assessor they will explain evidence gathering and how to understand our workbook and filing systems. Our workplace assessment visits are our best practice solution for NVQ delivery; your assessor will be able to cover quite a bit of the knowledge evidence requirements through a professional discussion, so do make time for them, as it cuts the amount of future work you will have to do!
Generally the level 6 Diploma covers…
We would need to observe you in at least one of the work-place activities listed below; we prefer to opt for a site inspection and risk assessment review as it tends to be a normal, low pressure work activity!
SHE Knows would like to remind you that our C&G approved Assessors are human assessors, not a computer platform or team of admin staff. We are all here to support you, visit you, talk to you and chase and encourage you until you compete.
If you do want to be supported with 2 additional visits, then an assessor will visit you at work (we’ll plan the sites and times with you) and they can then observe you and assist with portfolio building as you require.
If you require a classroom taught session at your premises, or if you have any other questions, please contact us here.

Because the NVQ is about you, we are flexible about your sign up date and scheduling your induction. This will be organised by your assessor after your registration.
