This award is aimed at learners from any sector who wish to develop or improve their knowledge and understanding of sustainability and the green environment, particularly those who want to work within sustainability, or hold a role in which they have responsibilities for sustainability reviews and planning within their business.
Whilst going through our workbook, candidates will cover topics such as definitions of sustainability, human and non-human impacts on the environment, greenhouse gases, carbon footprints, and national and international policy on net zero.
What does this award cover?
This course is made up of one unit which includes:
✓ Defining and categorising the environment
✓ Defining and categorising the environment
✓ Components of the environment and how they can be changed
✓ Sustainability – definition and its three pillars
✓ Actors and influencers in sustainability and green technologies
✓ Greenhouse gases and global warming
✓ The sources of greenhouse gases and targets for reduction
✓ What next zero carbon emission are, and how this is measured and modelled
✓ Planning carbon reductions as they relate to net zero
✓ National and international policy on net zero.
This is a self-taught, distance learning course. Upon registration candidates will receive a copy of our workbook which covers all the topics they will need to know to successfully complete the award. This is delivered with the aid of informative videos, graphics and worksheets, allowing candidates to study at their own pace, and encouraging them to conduct their own research to enrich their knowledge and understanding.
The assessment for this qualification is a short answer, closed book, written examination paper. This can be taken at the SHE Knows Training centre, or at a suitable site organised by the candidate and agreed with the assessor, invigilated by either a trusted colleague/manager, or using a SHE Knows appointed invigilator (additional costs apply)
Options for Study
Option 1: With ongoing support from the assessor With this option, you will receive continuous support and assessment of your knowledge from an appointed assessor as you work through the course materials. You will be able to complete worksheets along the way to submit to your assessor, and your assessor will provide feedback, guidance and advice at every stage, ensuring you stay on track. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and refine your understanding before sitting the final assessment.
Option 2: Independent study with self-assessment This option is ideal for self-motivated learners, allowing you to study at your own pace and track your own progress. You will receive the full course workbook, worksheets, answer sheets, and sample question papers to assess your own understanding as you go along. When you feel confident that you have understood the syllabus, you can then book your final assessment with us.
You can start at any time. Once you have signed up and we have received your completed registration form (attached), you will be issued a work pack via email. Your assessor will then book an induction with you to explain the structure of the course and how it is assessed.
