This course, run at our satellite site, Humber Electrical Training, will cover the latest standard of the IET wiring regulations and the safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. This is an ideal course for practising electricians seeking job progression and the chance to learn and develop skills.
Course Contents:
This course will cover the latest standard of the IET wiring regulations. You will learn to navigate the book and gain an understanding of the essential sections as set out in the contents.
The focus of delivery will be the 8 parts of the latest amendment of this book which are:
• Part 1 – Scope, object and fundamental principles
• Part 2 – Definitions
• Part 3 – Assessment of general characteristics
• Part 4 – Protection for safety
• Part 5 – Selection and erection of equipment
• Part 6 – Inspection and testing
• Part 7 – Special installations or locations
• Part 8 – Functional requirements
Assessment
The assessment for this qualification is a 2-hour online, multiple choice, open book exam which you will take at home or your work.
(Please note: for the exam, you must have access to a PC running Windows 8 or higher with a webcam, Google Chrome as a web browser, a good internet connection, and a quiet space in which to take the exam)
This course can be delivered following one of the following structures:
• Daytime Classes – 3 days teaching within a classroom – 8:30am till 4:00pm
• Evening Classes – 8 evenings (every Tuesday) teaching within a classroom – 6:00pm till 9:00pm
• Weekend Classes – 3 days (Saturday, Sundays & Saturday) teaching within a classroom – 8:30am till 4:00pm

This course, run at our satellite site, Humber Electrical Training, is for candidates who have previous training and experience of inspection and testing within the electrical industry. You should have experience of single phase and 3 phase systems and have some familiarity with completing certifications and/or reports.
Although it is not an entry requirement, we strongly recommend candidates to have achieved C&G L3 Award in Requirements for Electrical Installations (2382-22) prior to sitting this course.
Course contents:
The course will cover the current requirements of BS 7671 relating to inspection and testing techniques as given in IET Guidance Note 3. It covers methods of inspection and testing all types of installations as set out by BS 7671 and how to complete the required certification and reports to a professional standard.
The course will cover the following key areas:
• Requirements of Electricity at Work Regulations
• Requirements for safe isolation
• Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
• Requirements for periodic inspection and testing
• Safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
• Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
• Requirements for testing energised installations
• Interpretation of test results
• Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment
•Documentation, certification and reporting
The course will cover the following testing methods relating to single phase and 3 phase systems:
• Continuity of protective conductors
• Continuity of ring final circuit conductors
• Insulation resistance
• Polarity
• Earth electrode resistance
• Polarity and phase sequencing
• Earth fault loop impedance including Ze, Zdb and Zs
• Prospective fault current
• RCD
• Phase sequencing
• Functional testing
• Verification of voltage drop.
Assessment
The assessment criteria for this course are as follows:
• Task A – Visual Inspection – 30mins
• Task B – Periodic Inspection and Test – 2hrs and 30mins
• Task C – Short Answer Questions – 1hr and 20mins
• A 2-hour online, multiple choice, open book exam which you will take at home or your work.

• Weekend Classes – 4 1/2 days (Saturday & Sundays) teaching and completion of tasks within a classroom – 8:30am till 4:00pm
